5 Things to do when your littles are sick.
We all dread the Flu/Cold season! Especially, when you see your littles going through it again and again! I feel ya, Mama! Here are 5 things to do to help when your littles are sick!
1. Run a humidifier often when your little is sick.
The first thing to do when your little is sick, is to run a humidifier! A humidifier offers numerous benefits for both your health and your environment. A big thing that a humidifier can help with is to ease respiratory issues, such as asthma, allergies, or congestion which will help promote better breathing. Additionally, it can help bring relief to dry skin, irritated nasal passages, and sore throats by maintaining optimal moisture levels in the air. You would be surprised by how much faster healing time will speed up if you make sure your moisture levels in your home are good. Sometimes it’s hard to remember to keep that humidifier going all through the cold and winter months, I totally can relate to that! Just try to focus on running the humidifier when you see you or your littles starting to come down with something.
Here is my favorite humidifier that I put in all our bedrooms! Also, shop the little fish that help keep your tank clean here. If you drop in one of these fish in each tank, you do not have to worry about any mildew smell! You can thank me later!
2. Diffuse essential oils to help bring relief when your little is sick.
The second thing to do when your littles are sick is to diffuse essential oils. Diffusing essential oils comes with a range of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Firstly, it can enhance relaxation and reduce stress, creating a calming atmosphere while you and your little are healing from being sick. Also, different essential oils, such as lavender or chamomile, possess soothing properties that contribute to a tranquil environment. Certain essential oils, like eucalyptus or peppermint, also have respiratory benefits, aiding in clearing congestion and supporting overall respiratory health.
My go-to diffusing oil when sickness hits my home is Germ Fighter by Plant Therapy. With an organic blend of Lemon, Clove Bud, Eucalyptus Globulus, Cinnamon Cassia, Rosemary, Germ Fighter, it acts like a defense shield for your immune system! I actually keep this oil diffusing through the Fall and Winter months and when sickness hits, I will switch up to peppermint or lavender, depending on what sickness we are fighting.
3. Clean high traffic areas and wash your sheets to help when your littles are sick.
As soon as my kids and I get sick, I will wash our sheets immediately. There is something so comforting about nice clean sheets. After the sickness has run its course, I will wash the sheets one last time. Now, I know that is a lot of washing but I can tell you that it makes a difference in my home when I do this. My go-to laundry detergent I use is clean and effective is Dirty Labs. I really enjoy the light fresh scent and feel good knowing it’s not full of chemicals!
After I strip the beds, I move onto cleaning some high traffic areas and areas I know that are often touched. I clean them with plant therapy’s germ fighter concentration. This cleaning solution not only smells good and works but it lasts! You just need to purchase a glass spray bottle and pour one concentrated solution to one bottle.
4. Give your little one an epsom salt bath to help with their sickness.
Epsom Salt baths when my littles get sick is my go to! Epsom salt is known for its ability to soothe sore muscles and joints. The high magnesium content in Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin, promoting muscle relaxation and reducing inflammation. Additionally, an Epsom salt bath can aid in stress relief by promoting the production of serotonin. The warm water and magnesium combination also contribute to better sleep quality, making it an excellent bedtime ritual. I recommend fragrance free for littles. I also limit the baths to twice a week to prevent the skin from becoming overly dry and make sure to look at the packaging to tell you how much to use. When used correctly, Epsom Salt baths are really a great way to help your little relax and get ready to get the rest that their little body needs!
5. Staying hydrated can help with sickness.
The last of the 5 things to do when your little is sick is to drink water! It is no secret our bodies are made up of 60% water! And with that being said, it should be no surprise that one of the things to do when your little is sick is to make sure they are drinking enough water! Easier said than done right?! I get it. One of the things that I have found works is asking my little to take so many sips every hour. I like to do at least 7 sips of water. After so many hours, you can feel confident they are keeping up on hydration.
Being a mama, I understand the struggle of staying hydrated on an ordinary day, let alone when feeling under the weather. One of my favorite things to drink to speed up my healing time, is to drink Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier.
