One of the best resources can be discovered within numerous books that have been prayed over and written with care. Here are seven books that have truly influenced my journey through motherhood.

“Shepherding A Child Heart” and “Instructing a Child’s Heart” by Tedd Tripp the 1st recommendation of the 12 wonderful books and podcasts for Christian Mamas.

Tedd Tripp, the author of both these books, is so rich with wisdom and knowledge for parents! His insights and guidance are just so valuable for navigating this crazy journey of parenthood and training your littles to see Jesus in every aspect of their lives.

“Shepherding a Child’s Heart” by Ted Tripp is a great handbook for us moms, all about nurturing and guiding our kids’ hearts in a way that’s totally rooted in faith. It’s not just about managing their behavior, but really connecting with them on a deeper level and helping them grow into kind, loving individuals. Plus, it’s full of practical advice and real-life examples that make it super relatable and helpful!

Second in the the parenting series, “Instructing a Child’s Heart” by Ted Tripp is a wonderful book that really gets into the nitty-gritty of parenting from a biblical standpoint. I am currently in a parenting class that is going through this book and every week we are met with new incites on how to reach out children’s hearts. This book is all about teaching our little ones not just what to do, but why it’s important to do it. Tripp gives us loads of practical advice on how to guide our kids with love and godliness, focusing on shaping their hearts and character. It’s been such a blessing for me, and I think you’d find it really helpful too!

I highly recommend both of these books for all stages of parenthood. It’s really never too late to learn to reach your kids at their heart.

“Missional Motherhood: The Everyday Ministry of Motherhood in the Grand Plan of God” by Gloria Furman the 2nd of the 12 wonderful books and podcasts for Christian Mamas.

“Missional Motherhood” is such an inspiring read for us mamas who are in the thick of it! It has comforting truths of how our role as mothers fits into God’s bigger plan for the world. And it’s a breath of fresh air, reminding us that even in the midst of diapers and tantrums, we’re part of something truly significant. Plus, Gloria Furman writes in such a relatable way that you feel like you’re chatting with a wise friend over coffee!

“Loving the Little Years: Motherhood in the Trenches” by Rachel Jankovic

“Loving the Little Years” couldn’t have been recommended to me at a better time. I remember when I first started this short but encouraging read while navigating the trenches of motherhood, with two littles under the age of two! I felt so seen and heard by Rachel Jankovic. She totally gets what it’s like to be knee-deep in diapers and chaos. She’s so real and relatable, and her words are like a big hug on those tough days. Trust me, this book is a must-read and will leave you encouraged that you are capable of being the mama you so desire to be!

“For the Love of Discipline: When the Gospel Meets Tantrums and Time-Outs” by Sara Wallace

Another book that I stumbled upon during the right moment. It can be hard navigating between discipline, the gospel, and tantrums when you are a first time parent trekking through those waters! Often times I found myself overwhelmed by it all. “For The Love of Discipline” gave me that breath I needed and the step back I needed in order to see discipline in a whole new light. Sarah Wallace offers practical insights on how to approach discipline through the lens of the gospel. It’s an overall refreshing perspective that helps parents understand the importance of grace and love in the midst of tantrums and timeouts. And it will shift your focus on what’s truly important and the end goal of it all.

“Don’t Make me Count to Three” by Ginger Hubbard

A great parenting book if you do NOT want to count to Three! “Don’t Make Me Count to Three” was a blessing to find it! Ginger really stresses the importance of listening the first time, right away, and with a happy heart! Her approach to obedience and discipline goes to the heart of the matter for your children while being both firm and loving, just like how God disciplines us. She also shares some great strategies for staying consistent and nurturing a close bond with our kids, even through the tough times. This book is a game-changer and I highly recommend for parents in early toddler years!

Ginger Hubbard also has an amazing resource called Wise Words for Moms, that provides a chart with heart probing questions to ask your children when in the moment of instructing them back to Jesus.

I truly appreciate this chart because I carry it with me wherever I go. My kids are still quite young, with my oldest being 3 years old, so having this resource is amazing when I’m guiding them back to Jesus during teaching moments. This chart isn’t just for little ones; it’s for kids of all ages, and it’s incredibly helpful in guiding them to understand what Scripture says and getting to the heart of the matter.

“The Gospel Comes with a House Key: Practicing Radically Ordinary Hospitality in Our Post-Christian World” by Rosaria Butterfield

Warning, “The Gospel Comes with a House Key” will make you stay up late to read it!! In the book, Rosaria Butterfield shares her personal journey of faith and explores the concept of radical hospitality as a means of living out the Christian faith. Butterfield will push you past your comfort zone and reconsider motherhood and the daily rhythms of life with your kids, in a way that pushes past the boundaries of your home’s walls.

Butterfield shows you it’s about showing the love of Jesus by opening our doors wide to strangers and neighbors, inviting them into our messy, imperfect lives, and sharing everything we have with them – whether it’s a meal, a listening ear, or a helping hand. This book has radically changed my life on how I see my neighbors, how I treat my neighbors, and how I teach my children about the blessings we have to offer others with our home.

“Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad: The Perspective Shift That Could Completely Change the Way You Mother” by Abbie Halberstadt

“Hard Is Not The Same As Bad” was a humble blessing for me. As a mama to my spirited son, whom I affectionately call my “strong-willed one,” I found comfort and inspiration in its pages during the challenging seasons I’ve encountered. It’s taught me to embrace a new perspective on these tough times; difficult doesn’t necessarily mean negative; hard is not the same as bad. That’s the core message of the book. Abbie Halberstadt does a beautiful job of graciously pointing back to Jesus in all of our trials and tribulations through pointing back to scripture. This book offers a refreshing and essential shift in focus on motherhood and a must-add to your reading list!

Plus, she has this amazing ability to relate to you on a personal level and challenge you to see things the way God see them. This podcast is truly a delight, filled with valuable insights, laughter, and encouragement for mamas like us, as we navigate the wonderful chaos of parenting.
